Time For A Longer Campaign! Help me Choose
Weekend One Shots and Three Act Plays Only Get You So Far...
It struck me the other day that it’s been around 6 months since I wrapped up the longest campaign I’ve played since discovering Solo RPGs—namely, The Redemption of Olvir the Forgotten, an epic 27-part Ironsworn story.
I learned so much from that campaign, my first in the hobby, and I still miss getting into the head of my shady—but good-hearted—Ironsworn character. I wrote about 35,000 words in that story! Here’s the contents page for new subscribers who possibly never even knew about it
Since then, I’ve settled into a pattern of posting Weekend One-Shots punctuated by my Three-Act Plays, plus one slightly longer story in Free League’s Vaesen.
But nothing that qualifies as a “campaign”, not really….
I think it’s time to change that—and begin a new campaign that will run for a few months and “go deep” into a world and system.
And I want to call upon my subscribers, followers, and readers to help decide the all-important question of which game to play.
A little bit of “thought process” about the contenders
Ker Nethalas
I bought the “Black Edition” of Ker Nethalas, and promptly shoved it onto my shelf, where it has languished ever since.
Since then, we’ve had the new Gravebound Edition, for which I have (Alex being a generous kinda guy with these updates) the PDF and “print at cost” codes for DriveThru.
This update streamlines a lot of things from the original, so if this one tops the poll, then I’ll pull the trigger on getting it printed!
I definitely want to play Ker Nethalas soon, largely because I keep reading how fantastic and immersive it is!
Ironsworn: Starforged
Again, I’ve had the core book on my shelf for the longest time. I took it with me on holiday the other week, and read through—it’s essentially the same game as the original Ironsworn with a few tweaks and upgrades!
So, I know I can slip into this game seamlessly and start exploring.
I’ll certainly play Starforged one day because, why not? Whether it’s the next game up on the docket…hmmmm… let’s see.
The One Ring
A bit of a “wild card” pick here. I’ve had the Starter Set for this beauty on my shelf since the last Modiphius Black Friday sale, but I confess to only peeling off the shrink wrap the other day.
But I took the chunky paperback of The Lord of the Rings with us on holiday—I’m currently some way into The Two Towers, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed jumping into Middle Earth (yes, I know… about fifty years later than everyone else!)
I hear good things about The One Ring even though I know little about it, frankly. I don’t even own a copy of the core rulebook at the moment.
Now, it’s probably worth saying that I expect to play ALL three of these games over the next 12 months or so. So, voting for one of them doesn’t exclude the others—we are simply thinking about what comes next…
So whaddya think, friends? Which of these games do you think that I should play next and write about it here on Rolling Alone?

Ker Nethalas, obviously. I'm not biased, you are!
I like all three but I'd choose Ker Nethalas because it's the one I'd most like to see someone else play so I can better understand the rules, especially for solo play.
